My capstone project is an exploration of my interest in fabric-based texture, form, and details. I used experiments of deconstruction and manipulation as a way of creating imagery to represent the capabilities of the fabric cotton gauze. I chose cotton gauze due to its lightweight, open-weave, and transparent quality. I felt that the characteristics of the fabric would work well with experimenting due to its malleable nature. The material is typically used for surgical dressings and textile trimmings, thus I wanted to remove these associations by placing the fabric in new contexts. The imagery allows the viewer to question what they see, as some may resemble different forms or themes. This follows the concept of seeing what often goes unseen, by show casing the material in an alternative way.
I formatted the final images with a wall display to fully experience the intricacies of the fabric in person. Accompanied by a booklet, compiling all the experiments with text explaining the project theme and goals.
