ACKNOWLEDGMENT. DESIGN AT HOME - STUDIO 2020
Studio Acknowledgment. Design at Home explored our relationship between our design practice, home and how we connect with Indigenous peoples and knowledges. We explored our particular design practice, tone of voice and visual languages as they relate to First nations peoples. Overall creating our own design narrative of exploring home whilst acknowledging our relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. With this poster series I visualised my first personal written Acknowledgment of Country as I gained connections between the places I associate with home and the true sovereigns of this unceded land.
The function of a poster series allowed each poster and paragraph of my Acknowledgment to be viewed individually as an insight into my journey through this studio. Whilst simultaneously being viewed collectively as one, as each poster flows and connects to the next. The photographic element of the posters and the decision to write and visualise my Acknowledgment through the relationship of water was a way in which I was able to express my intentions as a designer and the connection I have made with home and Indigenous Knowledges. Each sculptural ice piece relates to the content of the paragraph, whether it be a symbol or the physical shape of a location such as a river. The hand written text was a way of further expressing my personal tone and intentions.
