STUDIO - In Your Face! StereoType – Mono et Mono - 2020
Through the typographic studio “In Your Face! StereoType – Mono et Mono” I created a type study inspired by the creases and crevices of clothing and fabric. Focusing on silk, I explored the ways in which the fabric responded to pressure and air by throwing sheets of silk and documenting their structure. By analysing the shapes created I sought out typographic forms and translated this to a hand drawn silk alphabet. The process of drawing out the type forms allowed me to emphasise the creases which initially inspired me. To further progress the type form I returned to the silk fabric by manipulating it in order to re-create the lettering through the use of PVA adhesive. The juxtaposition of the free flowing nature of the fabric and the confined structure I created with glue allowed me to challenge an expectation of touch when interacting with the type form.
